북핵 신고와 냉각탑 폭파를 환영한다!
남북의 화해와 한반도의 평화를 기도하며 정진해 온 우리 한국기독교장로회는 북이 핵 신고서를 제출하고, 북핵 문제의 상징인 냉각탑을 공개적으로 폭파한 것을 진심으로 환영하는 바이다.
오늘 북이 전 세계에 보여준 행동은 완전한 한반도 비핵화를 향해 나아가는 중차대한 출발점이 될 것이다. 그동안 북의 핵무장과 미국의 북에 대한 테러지원국 ? 악의 축 규정은 한반도 불안의 핵심 요인이었다. 이런 가운데 실행된 북의 핵 신고와 냉각탑 폭파는 북미 관계 정상화와 한반도 평화에 새 기운을 불어넣을 것이라 확신한다.
핵 신고서 제출과 냉각탑 폭파가 한반도 비핵화와 평화의 완성은 아니지만, 기념비적인 전환점인 것은 확실한 만큼 우리 정부도 적극적으로 협력하리라 기대한다. 나아가 우리는 세계의 모든 핵 보유 국가들이 자신들의 핵무기 프로그램을 철폐할 것을 강력히 촉구한다. 우리는 앞으로도 이 과정을 예의주시하며 한반도와 온 세계에 하나님의 평화가 이루어지기를 기도할 것이다.

The PROK, having consistently prayed and worked for reconciliation and peace of the Korean peninsula, wholeheartedly welcomes yesterday’s declaration by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) of its nuclear program and its intention to destroy the cooling tower at its main nuclear reactor, a symbol of the DPRK’s nuclear weapon program.
The action DPRK will show the world today in destroying the cooling tower is a significant first step toward the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The nuclearization of the DPRK and the US branding of the DPRK as a state sponsor of terrorism and as part of an “axis of evil” have been the core causes of tension on the Korean peninsula. We believe that the DPRK’s accounting of its nuclear work and destruction of the cooling tower can revitalize efforts for normalization of DPRK-US relations and for peace on the Korean peninsula.
The DPRK accounting of its nuclear program and destruction of the cooling tower does not mean the perfect accomplishment of the denuclearization and peace of the Korean peninsula, but, recognizing that these steps are definitely a monumental turning point, we expect our government also to actively cooperate for peace on the Korean peninsula. We further urge all nuclearized nations to abandon their nuclear weapons programs. We will closely watch the course of developments and continue to pray for the realization of God’s peace on the Korean peninsula and around the world.
