사도행17장 - 아테네에 가서 복음전하다.
바울의 아덴에서의 복음 전파,
아테네는 그 유명한 철학의 도시 신화의 도시가 아닌가,
아테네의 철학자,, 소크라테스. 플라톤, 아리스토텔레스, 디오게네스 , 에피큐러스학파, 스토아 학파,, 철학 학문의 이 나라 이 도시에서 바울이 복음을 전하다.
학문적 진리의 토론을 좋아하는 철학의 신화의 도시에서 바울은 토론으로 그들을 설복 설득하려 하였으나 큰 성과를 거두지 못하였다고 생각하고 아니 작은 결실도 얻지 못하고 낙심한 듯 하다. 아덴 이후 고린도에 전도 방문하며 이곳에서 전도여행에 낙심하였음을 알 수 있다. 그것은 바울이 아덴을 떠나 고린도에 도착했을 때의 심정을 통해 알 수 있다.
바울은 아덴, 아테네에서 복음 전도가 실패하였다고 생각하였을 것,, 교회를 세우지도 못하였고,,
그래서 고린도 전후서 등은 있어도 아덴서신 아덴전후서는 없다. 거기에 교회를 세우지 못하였기 때문이다. 아덴, 아테네 는 그리이스, 헬라의 수도인데 지금 그리이스는 기독교 국가가 되있다는 것은 복음의 씨가 생명력이 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 하나님자시이기도 한 하나님의 말씀은 하나님의 영 예수의 영 성령께서 그 말씀과 함께하고 역사한다는 것을 알 수 있다. (고전2:1- 5)
행전17:
1 저희가 암비볼리와 아볼로니아로 다녀가 데살로니가에 이르니 거기 유대인의 회당이 있는지라
When they had passed through /Amphipolis and Apollonia, /they came to Thessalonica,/ where there was a Jewish synagogue.
2 바울이 자기의 규례대로 저희에게로 들어가서 세 안식일에 성경을 가지고 강론하며
2 As his custom was, /Paul went into the synagogue, /and on three Sabbath days /he reasoned /with them /from the Scriptures,

3 뜻을 풀어 그리스도가 해를 받고 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살아야 할 것을 증명하고 이르되 내가 너희에게 전하는 이 예수가 곧 그리스도라 하니
3 explaining and proving /that the Christ had to suffer /and rise from the dead./"This Jesus/ I am proclaiming to you / is the Christ," he said.

3. He explained the prophecies and proved that the Messiah must suffer and rise from the dead. He said, “ this Jesus I’m telling you about is the Messiah.” / nlt 2nd
4 그 중에 어떤 사람 곧 경건한 헬라인의 큰 무리와 적지 않은 귀부인도 권함을 받고 바울과 실라를 좇으나
4 Some of the Jews/ were persuaded /and joined Paul and Silas,/ as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks /and not a few prominent women.
5 그러나 유대인들은 시기하여 저자의 어떤 괴악한 사람들을 데리고 떼를 지어 성을 소동케 하여 야손의 집에 달려들어 저희를 백성에게 끌어내려고 찾았으나
5 But the Jews were jealous; .so they rounded up /some bad characters. /from the marketplace,/ formed a mob /and started a riot /in the city. /They rushed to Jason's house /in search of Paul and Silas /in order to bring them /out to the crowd.
6 발견치 못하매 야손과 및 형제를 끌고 읍장들 앞에 가서 소리질러 가로되 천하를 어지럽게 하던 이 사람들이 여기도 이르매
6 But when they did not find them,/ they dragged Jason /and some other brothers /before the city officials,/ shouting: /"These men /who have caused trouble /all over the world /have now come here,
7 야손이 들였도다 이 사람들이 다 가이사의 명을 거역하여 말하되 다른 임금 곧 예수라 하는 이가 있다 하더이다 하니
7 and Jason has welcomed them /into his house. /They are all defying Caesar's decrees,/ saying /that there is another king, /one called Jesus."
8 무리와 읍장들이 이 말을 듣고 소동하여
8 When they heard this,/ the crowd and the city officials /were thrown /into turmoil.
9 야손과 그 나머지 사람들에게 보석금을 받고 놓으니라
9 Then they made Jason and the others post bond /and let them go.
10 밤에 형제들이 곧 바울과 실라를 베뢰아로 보내니 저희가 이르러 유대인의 회당에 들어가니라
10 As soon as it was night,/ the brothers sent Paul and Silas away /to Berea./ On arriving there, /they went to the Jewish synagogue.
11 베뢰아 사람은 데살로니가에 있는 사람보다 더 신사적이어서 간절한 마음으로 말씀을 받고 이것이 그러한가 하여 날마다 성경을 상고하므로
11 Now the Bereans were /of more noble character /than the Thessalonians, /for they received the message/ with great eagerness /and examined the Scriptures every day /to see/ if what Paul said / was true.

12 그 중에 믿는 사람이 많고 또 헬라의 귀부인과 남자가 적지 아니하나
12 Many of the Jews/ believed,/ as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.
13 데살로니가에 있는 유대인들이 바울이 하나님 말씀을 베뢰아에서도 전하는 줄을 알고 거기도 가서 무리를 움직여 소동케 하거늘
13 When the Jews in Thessalonica /learned /that Paul was preaching the word of God /at Berea, / they went there too,/ agitating the crowds and stirring them up.
14 형제들이 곧 바울을 내어 보내어 바다까지 가게 하되 실라와 디모데는 아직 거기 유하더라
14 The brothers immediately sent Paul /to the coast, /but Silas and Timothy stayed /at Berea.
15 바울을 인도하는 사람들이 데리고 아덴까지 이르러 바울에게서 실라와 디모데를 자기에게로 속히 오게 하라는 명을 받고 떠나니라
15 The men who escorted Paul/ brought him /to Athens /and then left with instructions /for Silas and Timothy /to join him /as soon as possible.
16 바울이 아덴에서 저희를 기다리다가 온 성에 우상이 가득한 것을 보고 마음에 분하여
16 While Paul was waiting /for them /in Athens,/ he was greatly distressed /to see /that the city was /full of idols.
17 회당에서는 유대인과 경건한 사람들과 또 저자에서는 날마다 만나는 사람들과 변론하니
17 So he reasoned /in the synagogue /with the Jews /and the God-fearing Greeks,/ as well as /in the marketplace /day by day /with those who happened to be there.
18 어떤 에비구레오와 스도이고 철학자들도 바울과 쟁론할새 혹은 이르되 이 말쟁이가 무슨 말을 하고자 하느뇨 하고 혹은 이르되 이방 신들을 전하는 사람인가보다 하니 이는 바울이 예수와 또 몸의 부활 전함을 인함이러라
18 A group of /Epicurean and Stoic philosophers/ began to dispute /with him. /Some of them asked,/ "What is this babbler /trying to say?" /Others remarked,/ "He seems to be advocating/ foreign gods." /They said this /because Paul was preaching the good news /about Jesus and the resurrection.
19 붙들어 가지고 아레오바고로 가며 말하기를 우리가 너의 말하는 이 새 교가 무엇인지 알 수 있겠느냐
19 Then they took him /and brought him /to a meeting of the Areopagus,/ where they said to him, /"May we know /what this new teaching is /that you are presenting?
20 네가 무슨 이상한 것을 우리 귀에 들려 주니 그 무슨 뜻인지 알고자 하노라 하니
20 You are bringing some strange ideas/ to our ears,/ and we want to know /what they mean."
21 모든 아덴 사람과 거기서 나그네 된 외국인들이 가장 새로 되는 것을 말하고 듣는 이 외에 달리는 시간을 쓰지 않음이더라
21 (All the Athenians and the foreigners /who lived there spent their time /doing nothing but /talking about and listening /to the latest ideas.)
22 바울이 아레오바고 가운데 서서 말하되 아덴 사람들아 너희를 보니 범사에 종교성이 많도다
22 Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see /that in every way /you are very religious.
23 내가 두루 다니며 너희의 위하는 것들을 보다가 알지 못하는 신에게라고 새긴 단도 보았으니 그런즉 너희가 알지 못하고 위하는 그것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하리라
23 For as I walked around /and looked carefully /at your objects of worship, /I even found an altar /with this inscription: / TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.
24 우주와 그 가운데 있는 만유를 지으신 신께서는 천지의 주재시니 손으로 지은 전에 계시지 아니하시고
24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands.
25 또 무엇이 부족한 것처럼 사람의 손으로 섬김을 받으시는 것이 아니니 이는 만민에게 생명과 호흡과 만물을 친히 주시는 자이심이라
25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.
26 인류의 모든 족속을 한 혈통으로 만드사 온 땅에 거하게 하시고 저희의 연대를 정하시며 거주의 경계를 한하셨으니
26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.
27 이는 사람으로 하나님을 혹 더듬어 찾아 발견케 하려 하심이로되 그는 우리 각 사람에게서 멀리 떠나 계시지 아니하도다
27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
28 우리가 그를 힘입어 살며 기동하며 있느니라 너희 시인 중에도 어떤 사람들의 말과 같이 우리가 그의 소생이라 하니
28 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'
29 이와 같이 신의 소생이 되었은즉 신을 금이나 은이나 돌에다 사람의 기술과 고안으로 새긴 것들과 같이 여길 것이 아니니라
29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by man's design and skill.
30 알지 못하던 시대에는 하나님이 허물치 아니하셨거니와 이제는 어디든지 사람을 다 명하사 회개하라 하셨으니
30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
31 이는 정하신 사람으로 하여금 천하를 공의로 심판할 날을 작정하시고 이에 저를 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리신 것으로 모든 사람에게 믿을 만한 증거를 주셨음이니라 하니라
31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."
32 저희가 죽은 자의 부활을 듣고 혹은 기롱도 하고 혹은 이 일에 대하여 네 말을 다시 듣겠다 하니
32 When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, "We want to hear you again on this subject."
33 이에 바울이 저희 가운데서 떠나매
33 At that, Paul left the Council.
34 몇 사람이 그를 친하여 믿으니 그 중 아레오바고 관원 디오누시오와 다마리라 하는 여자와 또 다른 사람들도 있었더라
34 A few men became followers of Paul and believed. Among them was Dionysius, a member of the Areopagus, also a woman named Damaris, and a number of others.

1 형제들아 내가 너희에게 나아가 하나님의 증거를 전할 때에 말과 지혜의 아름다운 것으로 아니하였나니
2 내가 너희 중에서 예수 그리스도와 그의 십자가에 못 박히신 것 외에는 아무것도 알지 아니하기로 작정하였음이라
3 내가 너희 가운데 거할 때에 약하며 두려워하며 심히 떨었노라
4 내 말과 내 전도함이 지혜의 권하는 말로 하지 아니하고 다만 성령의 나타남과 능력으로 하여
5 너희 믿음이 사람의 지혜에 있지 아니하고 다만 하나님의 능력에 있게 하려 하였노라
1 When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
3 I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,
5 so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.
