사도 바울와 동역자들이 이방에서의 예수 이름 증거가 얼마나 어렵겠는가,
하나님 즉 신을 전하면 또 그러려니 할 수 있는데 예수 이름을 전하고 대속의 죽으심 부활 승천 성령의 강림 임재 통행 들을 전하는데 이방인들은 참으로 이해하기도 받아드리기도 어려웠을 것이다. 그러므로 하나님께서도 이방 전도의 초기에 초자연적인 많은 표적을 보여주셨다는 것을 알 수 있다. 지금도 복음 전파 처음에 또한 초신자에게 오히려 표적들을 통해서 증거 해 주시는 것을 볼 수 있다.복음을 처음 받을 때 보이지 않은 영적 세계의 진리를 받아드리기가 너무나 어려울 수 있기 때문이기도 할 것이다.
행14 장 쓰스 와 허메
1 이에 이고니온에서 두 사도가 함께 유대인의 회당에 들어가 말하니 유대와 헬라의 허다한 무리가 믿더라
1 At Iconium /Paul and Barnabas/ went /as usual /into the Jewish synagogue./ There /they spoke /so effectively /that a great number of Jews /and Gentiles believed.
2 그러나 순종치 아니하는 유대인들이 이방인들의 마음을 선동하여 형제들에게 악감을 품게 하거늘
2 But the Jews /who refused to believe /stirred up /the Gentiles and poisoned/ their minds /against the brothers.
3 두 사도가 오래 있어 주를 힘입어 담대히 말하니 주께서 저희 손으로 표적과 기사를 행하게 하여 주사 자기 은혜의 말씀을 증거하시니
3 So Paul and Barnabas /spent considerable time/ there, /speaking boldly /for the Lord, /who confirmed the message /of his grace /by enabling them /to do miraculous signs /and wonders.
( * incite, 선동하다. / considerable time , 상당한 시간./ sided with, 편들다./ afoot, 진행중인.)
(* 인간이 신화 우상들의 이름인 것을 볼 수 있다. 우리가 믿는 하나님은 여호와 즉 스스로 계시는 분인데 우상들은 인생들이 만든 신들이라는 것이다. 그리고 그들의 형상들도 사람들이 만든 것들이다. 이사야서에 그 우상들의 허망함에 대해서 잘 말해주고 있다.
사람들은 영적존재 본능적으로 영원을 사모하는 존재로 누구나 신을 찾는 존재인 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 만들어지 신이 아니라 사랑계신 창조주 사랑의 하나님 그리고 전지 전능 지금도 여기에 함께 하시는 하나님을 찾고 알고 믿어야 할 것이다. )
4 그 성내 무리가 나뉘어 유대인을 좇는 자도 있고 두 사도를 좇는 자도 있는지라
4 The people of the city /were divided; /some sided with the Jews, /others with the apostles.
5 이방인과 유대인과 그 관원들이 두 사도를 능욕하며 돌로 치려고 달려드니
5 There was a plot afoot /among the Gentiles and Jews,/ together with their leaders,/ to mistreat them /and stone them.
(* 사울 바울은 예수 이름을 증거하는 복음 전도 중에 많은 시련과 도전 어려움 그 고난을 당하기도 하였다. 이방에 유대에 복음을 전하는데 하나님이 함께 하시면 왜 이렇게 시련이 많을까 할 수 있는데 그 내용도 미리 말씀해 주셨다는 것이다. 행9: )
6 저희가 알고 도망하여 루가오니아의 두 성 루스드라와 더베와 및 그 근방으로 가서
6 But they found out /about it /and fled to the Lycaonian cities /of Lystra and Derbe /and to the surrounding country,
7 거기서 복음을 전하니라
7 where/ they continued to preach /the good news.
8 루스드라에 발을 쓰지 못하는 한 사람이 있어 앉았는데 나면서 앉은뱅이 되어 걸어 본 적이 없는 자라
8 In Lystra /there sat a man /crippled /in his feet, /who was lame /from birth /and had never walked.
(* 발이 불구가 된 사람,, 이라는 문장을 영어식으로 표현하는 문장을 a man crippled in his feet,,
비교해 보면, 한국어와 표현방식이 너무나 다르다. 그러니 한국식 언어표현과 이렇게 다르니 영어가 얼마나 어렵겠는가, 한국어는 이러한 방식으로 표현하지 않는다. 영어식 표현 방법을 많이 접해보아야 한다. 그러한 점에서도 성경 영어는 최고의 영어 교육일 것이다. 최고의 영문학자들이 번역에 참가하여 신중하게 검증하며 번역하였을 것을 물론이다.
* crippled 이라는 과거분사가 명사 뒤에서 형용사처럼 수식하고 있다, 부사구를 이끌며.)
9 바울의 말하는 것을 듣거늘 바울이 주목하여 구원받을 만한 믿음이 그에게 있는 것을 보고
9 He listened to Paul /as he was speaking./ Paul looked directly at him, /saw /that he had faith /to be healed
10 큰 소리로 가로되 네 발로 바로 일어서라 하니 그 사람이 뛰어 걷는지라
10 and called out,/ "Stand up on your feet!"/ At that, /the man jumped up /and began to walk.
11 무리가 바울의 행한 일을 보고 루가오니아 방언으로 소리질러 가로되 신들이 사람의 형상으로 우리 가운데 내려오셨다 하여
11 When the crowd saw /what Paul had done, /they shouted /in the Lycaonian language,/ "The gods have come down /to us /in human form!"
12 바나바는 쓰스라 하고 바울은 그 중에 말하는 자이므로 허메라 하더라
12 Barnabas /they called Zeus, /and Paul they called Hermes /because he was the chief speaker.
(* 쓰스 는 희랍신화에 나오는 제우스, 허메는 제우스의 대변자 신탁의 전달자 웅변의 신이라고 함.
헬라 문화권의 이방인들이 바울과 바나바가 행한 이러한 기적을 보고 신들로 생각하였던 것이다. 그런데 바울이 복음의 말을 전달하였기에 허메라고 하고 바나바를 쓰스 즉 제우스라고 본 듯하다.) )
13 성 밖 쓰스 신당의 제사장이 소와 화관들을 가지고 대문 앞에 와서 무리와 함께 제사하고자 하니
13 The priest of Zeus, /whose temple was just /outside the city, /brought bulls /and wreaths to the city gates /because he and the crowd /wanted to offer sacrifices to them.
14 두 사도 바나바와 바울이 듣고 옷을 찢고 무리 가운데 뛰어 들어가서 소리질러
14 But when the apostles Barnabas /and Paul /heard of this, /they tore their clothes /and rushed out /into the crowd, /shouting:
15 가로되 여러분이여 어찌하여 이러한 일을 하느냐 우리도 너희와 같은 성정을 가진 사람이라 너희에게 복음을 전하는 것은 이 헛된 일을 버리고 천지와 바다와 그 가운데 만유를 지으시고 살아 계신 하나님께로 돌아오라 함이라
15 "Men,/ why are you doing this?/ We too are only men,/ human like you./ We are bringing you good news,/ telling you /to turn from these worthless things / to the living God,/ who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.
16 하나님이 지나간 세대에는 모든 족속으로 자기의 길들을 다니게 묵인하셨으나
16 In the past,/ he let all nations go /their own way.
17 그러나 자기를 증거하지 아니하신 것이 아니니 곧 너희에게 하늘로서 비를 내리시며 결실기를 주시는 선한 일을 하사 음식과 기쁨으로 너희 마음에 만족케 하셨느니라 하고
17 Yet he has not left himself /without testimony:/ He has shown kindness /by giving you rain /from heaven /and crops in their seasons;/ he provides you /with plenty of food /and fills your hearts /with joy."
18 이렇게 말하여 겨우 무리를 말려 자기들에게 제사를 못하게 하니라
18 Even with /these words, /they had difficulty /keeping the crowd /from sacrificing to them.
19 유대인들이 안디옥과 이고니온에서 와서 무리를 초인하여 돌로 바울을 쳐서 죽은 줄로 알고 성 밖에 끌어 내치니라
19 Then /some Jews came /from Antioch and Iconium /and won the crowd over./ They stoned Paul /and dragged him /outside the city,/ thinking /he was dead. (*행9:16)
20 제자들이 둘러섰을 때에 바울이 일어나 성에 들어갔다가 이튿날 바나바와 함께 더베로 가서
20 But after the disciples had gathered around him,/ he got up /and went back /into the city. The next day /he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
21 복음을 그 성에서 전하여 많은 사람을 제자로 삼고 루스드라와 이고니온과 안디옥으로 돌아가서
21 They preached the good news/ in that city /and won a large number /of disciples. /Then they returned to Lystra,/ Iconium and Antioch,
22 제자들의 마음을 굳게 하여 이 믿음에 거하라 권하고 또 우리가 하나님 나라에 들어가려면 많은 환난을 겪어야 할 것이라 하고
22 strengthening the disciples /and encouraging them /to remain true to the faith./ "We must go through many hardships /to enter the kingdom of God," /they said.

23 각 교회에서 장로들을 택하여 금식 기도하며 저희를 그 믿은 바 주께 부탁하고
23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders /for them /in each church and, /with prayer and fasting, /committed them to the Lord,/ in whom they had put their trust.
24 비시디아 가운데로 지나가서 밤빌리아에 이르러
24 After going through Pisidia,/ they came into Pamphylia,
25 도를 버가에서 전하고 앗달리아로 내려가서
25 and when they had preached the word /in Perga, /they went down to Attalia.
26 거기서 배 타고 안디옥에 이르니 이 곳은 두 사도의 이룬 그 일을 위하여 전에 하나님의 은혜에 부탁하던 곳이라
26 From Attalia /they sailed back to Antioch,/ where they had been committed /to the grace of God /for the work /they had now completed.
27 이르러 교회를 모아
하나님이 함께 행하신 모든 일과
이방인들에게 믿음의 문을 여신 것을 고하고
27 On arriving there,/ they gathered the church together
and reported /all that God had done through them
and how he had opened /the door of faith /to the Gentiles.( * on - ing, 하자 마자)
28 제자들과 함께 오래 있으니라
28 And they stayed there/ a long time /with the disciples.
(* 이방인은 세계인이라고도 할 수 있을 것이다.)

21 They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch,
