On Thursday, July 18 at 6 p.m., at Hwaseong City Hall., a Prayer vigil and
Memorial Cultural Festival for the victims of the Aricel disaster was held.
The Church and Society Committee of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian
Church in the Republic of Korea, the Migrant Mission community Movement, and
the Presbytery of Gyeonggi co-hosted the
" Prayer vigil for the victims of Hwaseong
Aricel disaster (fire accident)."
The prayer vigil began
with the leadership of Rev. Woo Kyung Sung (Director of External Cooperation at
the Migrant Mission Movement of the General Assembly) and Rev. Taehyun Yoon
(Secretary of the Church and Society Committee of the General Assembly)
delivered a prayer by Rev. Jaehyung Park (Chairperson Church and Society
Committee of the General Assembly) titled "Resurrection Breaking the Cycle
of Sacrifice."
Afterward, we
listened to the on-site testimony of Director Han Sang-jin (spokesperson of the
Hwaseong Disaster Response Committee) and concluded the prayer meeting with a
benediction by Rev. Choo Il-yup (Chairman of Gyeonggi Presbytery) and a
statement from Rev. Dr. Kim Chang-ju (General Secretary of the Presbyterian
Church in the Republic of Korea).
After the prayer vigil, the Memorial Cultural Festival was held in front
of the main entrance of the main building on the first floor of Hwaseong City
Hall.
At the 'Remembrance Cultural Festival', following the memorial speeches of
Rev. Oh Se-wook (Gaon Church, Gyeonggi Presbytery) and three other Gijang
pastors sang "Someone for You" and "Our March for the
Jubilee," and then Rev. Kim Chang-ju (General Secretary) delivered a
solidarity speech and hand over the support to the families of the victims.
The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea will
continue to be wary and pray for the souls of all the victims of the Hwaseong
Aricel disaster, and the investigation of the truth and prevention of the
tragedy.
